Crochet Ice Cream Cone

Updated: Aug 25, 2020

I’m so excited to share my very first written crochet pattern with you! It’s a perfect treat for the hot summer: a crochet ice cream cone with Bernat blanket yarn! This pattern is very easy and simple! Working in one piece and no sewing! This is my favorite amigurimi that doesn’t need sewing!

This post contains affiliate links (only for products I love, use and spend my own money on obviously). This means I earn some yarn money if you make a purchase through one of these links (no extra cost for you!).

Since we have to stay home when the pandemic started, I planned to make the crochet water balloons for sale at local marketplace. So I bought a few balls of different colors Bernat blanket yarn and advertised on Facebook marketplace and my own page. But only a few orders I received. What should I do with all the yarn I bought?

The weather is getting hot outside, ice cream is a must thing in summer for our family. So ice cream cone was the first thing popped in my mind. I first started making the cone and the ice cream separately. Then at last I had to sew the two parts together. Even it’s easy to sew together, I still prefer no sewing to make it simple and easy. So I create this no sewing crochet ice cream cone.

It’s worked from the ice cream to the cone, top to the bottom.

I made this pink ice cream first. The ice cream and cone were made separately. I made the cone from the bottom to the top then sew them together.

When I made the second one, I tried to work from the ice cream to the cone in decrease stitches and it looks just the same but no sewing!

Bernat blanket is chunky yarn, maybe some scrap yarn is enough to make one or two or three!!!

Here's the pattern!

Skill Level: Easy

Materials:

- Bernat Blanket Yarn of your choice.

(I use Seafoam and sand, and a little bit of assorted color.)

- Size N (9 mm) hook

- Tapestry needle

Abbreviation:

sc - single crochet

sl st - slip stitch

hdc - half double crochet

dec - decrease

Note:

The pattern is worked using US Crochet Terms.

Work with join stitch, from the ice cream to the cone. Crochet the edge of ice cream the last with shell stitch.

Finished size: 8” tall x 4” wide

Ice cream & cone

With ice cream color yarn

Round 1: Make 8 sc in magic ring, sl st to first sc, chain 1. [8]

Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around, sl st, chain 1. [16]

Round 3: (sc, 2 sc) x 8, sl st, chain 1. [24]

Round 4-5: sc in each stitch around, sl st, chain 1. [24]

Round 6: sc in each stitch around, sl st. [24]

Change to cone color yarn.

Do not cut the ice cream color yarn. Leave it outside (on the right side) the ice cream for making the edge of the ice cream later.

Round 7: Chain 1, back loop only. (sc in each of next 6 stitch, sc dec) x 3, sl st, chain 1. [21]

It will look like this if you only crochet on the back loop.

Round 8: sc in each stitch around, sl st, chain 1. [21]

Round 9: (sc in each of next 5 stitch, sc dec) x 3, sl st, chain 1. [18]

Round 10: sc in each stitch around, sl st, chain 1. [18]

Round 11: (sc in each of next 4 stitch, sc dec) x 3, sl st, chain 1. [15]

Round 12: sc in each stitch around, sl st, chain 1. [15]

Round 13: (sc in each of next 3 stitch, sc dec) x 3, sl st, chain 1. [12]

Round 14: sc in each stitch around, sl st, chain 1. [12]

Stuff the cone with polyester fiber before closing.

Round 15: (sc in each of next 2 stitch, sc dec) x 3, sl st, chain1. [9]

Round 16: (sc, sc dec) x 3, sl st, chain 1. [6]

Round 17: (sc dec) x 3, sl st, chain 1. [3]

Stuff the cone.

Fasten off and weave in tail.

Now we continue working on the edge of the ice cream.

Edge of ice cream

Hold the ice cream cone upside down.

Continue working with the ice cream color yarn.

Work on the front loop between round 6 and 7.

Pull a loop on the first stitch of round 6.

(Skip 1 stitch, 4 hdc in next stitch, skip 1, sl st) x 6.

Fasten off and weave in tail.

This is how the shell stitch looks like.

Sprinkles:

Embroider colorful sprinkles with the assorted colors of yarn.

Hope you enjoy making your own colorful ice cream cone!

I am working on a big cuddly ice cream cone with Bernat Blanket yarn too. Pattern will be available soon!
